Bidding Example — Accept Partial Quantity

The following example illustrates how Accept Partial Quantity can influence bid resolution in a multiple-quantity auction.

Note how the following properties have been set in the S_SYS_PREF table:

This example, shown in Table 49 uses a English bid type.

Bid Summary: Mary enters a Max Bid Amount of $100 for five items. The bid amount defaults to the Starting Bid amount of $5. Note that Accept Partial Quantity is set to TRUE (Mary clicked the Accept Partial Quantity check box).

Table 50 lists the results from the second bid in the auction.

Bid Summary: Don enters a Max Bid amount of $25 each for 100 items. Note that Accept Partial Quantity is set to FALSE (Don did not click the Accept Partial Quantity check box).

Don receives a message stating that his $25 bid was beaten by a larger AutoBid. Because Mary was winning five of the 100 items in this auction when Don placed his bid for the full-quantity (100 items), Mary's bid was raised to match Don's Maximum Bid amount. As a result, Don does not win any items.

Note that Mary needs only to match Don's bid amount because her bid carries an earlier timestamp and that gives her a bidding advantage (based on eAuc:BidTimeTieBreakOption 1).

Table 51 lists the results from the third bid in the auction.

Bid Summary: Sarah enters a Max Bid Amount of $15 for five items. She receives an error message stating that a bid of 15 is not high enough, and her bid is rejected (Don's losing bid raised the bid amount to $25 for other bidders even though there is still quantity available in the auction). Remaining bids are unchanged.

Table 52 lists the results from the fourth bid in the auction.

Bid Summary: Bill, a new bidder, enters a Max Bid Amount of $105 for five items. Because this is a new bid and has a later timestamp than Mary's winning bid, Bill's bid amount is increased by the $5 Increment to $30. He wins five items at $30 each.

Auction Results Summary: At the end of this auction, Mary wins five items at $25 each, and Bill wins 5 items at $30. Don does not win any items.
