Configure SNMP


You can use Simple Network Management Protocol (SNMP) to provide monitoring data to enterprise-wide management systems. With SNMP, you configure an SNMP agent to gather and send data about managed resources in response to a request from managers. You can also configure an SNMP agent to issue unsolicited reports to managers when they detect predefined thresholds or conditions on a managed resource.

The WLOC SNMP agent monitors the WLOC system and communicate data over the SNMP protocol. WLOC exposes management data through a collection of managed beans (MBeans). When the WLOC SNMP agent receives a request from a manager, it determines which MBean corresponds to the OID in the manager request. Then, it retrieves the data and wraps it in an SNMP response. The SNMP Agent tab on the Agent page enables you to configure an SNMP agent on which you can deploy services and SNMP trap destinations.

You configure the SNMP agent and trap destinations initially when you create an Agent using the WLOC Configuration Wizard, as described in Configuring the Controller and Agents.
