Add child master data entries

You can define master data entries to indicate containership by assigning one or more master data entries as children of a parent (containing) master data entry. For example, if a loading dock contains two portals, you can define a master data entry for "South Loading Dock" with the children "Portal One" and "Portal Two."

To add one or more children to a master data entry:

  1. If they do not already exist, create the master data entries you want to assign as children to a parent master data entry.

    See Create master data entries.

Note: A master data entry can be a child to more than one parent master data entries. It can also be tracked individually, like any other master data entry.

  2. If it does not already exist, create the (parent) master data entry to which you want to add one or more children.
  3. Display the Master Data Entries page that lists the master data entries you want to add as children.

See View and edit master data entries.

  4. Select the check boxes next to the master data entries you want to add as children.
  5. Click Copy to Clipboard.
  6. Display the Master Data Entry Details page for the master data entry to which you want to add one or more children.

See View and edit master data entries.

  7. Under Child Entry Name, click Paste from Clipboard.
  8. Click Save.

Note: You can remove a master data entry as a child without deleting the entry itself. See Remove child master data entries.
