Installing BEA SALT Using Console-Mode Installation

What Is Console-Mode Installation?

Console-mode installation is the text-based method of executing the BEA Installation program. It can be run only on UNIX systems and is intended for UNIX systems with non-graphical consoles. Console-mode installation offers the same capabilities as graphics-based installation.

 


Installing on UNIX Platforms in Console Mode

Perform the following steps to install BEA SALT software in console mode on a certified UNIX platform:

  1. Log on as root.
  2. $ su -
    Password:
  3. Access the CD-ROM device.
  4. # ls -l /dev/cdrom
    total 0
    brw-rw-rw-     1 root     sys     22,   0 July 1 10:55 c1b0t010
  5. Mount the CD-ROM. Mount commands vary depending on your system configuration. Refer to the platform data sheets for Tuxedo 8.1 or Tuxedo 9.1, or contact your System Administrator for the specific command for your system.
  6. Change the directory to the unix directory on your CD-ROM device. For example,
  7. # cd /mnt
  8. List the CD-ROM contents.
  9. Execute the installation program in character-based mode by selecting the appropriate file for your platform from the listed files. For example, for the HP-UX platform, select:
  10. # sh salt11_tux81_32_hpux_11_pa.bin -i console
  11. The installation program runs and prompts you for responses (see Listing 3-1 for an example).

Note: If you did not install the product license during installation, refer to Post BEA SALT Installation for how to install the license as a post-installation task.

 


Uninstalling BEA SALT on UNIX Platforms in Console Mode

To uninstall BEA SALT on a UNIX platform:

  1. Change to your uninstall directory using the following command:
  2. > cd $TUXDIR/uninst_salt_1_1/Uninstall_SALT_1.1_for_Tuxedo_8.1
  3. Start the uninstallation program with the following command:
  4. <bea/home> sh Uninstall_SALT_1.1_for_Tuxedo_8.1 -i console
