Administrator's Reference

The Administrator's Reference describes the functions of the Personalized Knowledge Services Administrator interface windows that appear on the Compass Server Administrator windows.

Access to administrative functions specific to Personalized Knowledge Services is achieved through various sections of the iPlanet Compass Server administration interface. The changes and additions made to the Administration interface by Personalized Knowledge Services is summarized in the table below. Sections and functions not covered in the table below remain basically unchanged after the upgrade.

Robot Manage Sites New button for convenient access to the Site Wizard.
Database Autoclassify New page allowing you to activate the Autoclassify procedure immediately
Categories Construction Enhanced Category Editor applet allowing you to define Autoclassify rules with each category
Categories Classification Rules | Autoclassify New link - duplicate of Categories | Construction link
Categories Classification Rules | Robot Define robot classification rules. Applet from Compass Server unchanged. Label on link renamed for clarity.
Categories Classify documents | Autoclassify Duplicate of Database | Autoclassify. Introduced for convenience.
Categories Classify documents | RD Editor Allows you manually edit RDs and their classifications. Renamed from RD Editor in Compass Server.
My Compass Control Profiler Control Panel. Profiler enhanced to process comments and to autoclassify documents at the start of each run (prior to profiling).
My Compass Schedule Enhanced to allow you to schedule the profiler to run up to 24 times a day
My Compass Users Enhanced to support
My Compass About Displays version information about Personalized Knowledge Services for Compass Server
End User Search All standard templates enhanced to support display of Personalized Knowledge Services document rating symbols and discussion symbol whenever there is a discussion to view.

Click the My Compass button to access these features. The My Compass panel has the following options:

Additionally, the following enhancements to the Compass Server are provided:

  • Creating classification or matching rules -- Describes how you would define the "matching rules".

Profiler Schedule Editor

The Profiler Schedule Editor allows you to schedule the Profiler and provides status for the Profiler.

The elements of the Profiler Schedule window are:

Element Description
The schedule is currently On/Off Provides the On/Off status for the Profiler scheduler.
Activate Profiler daily at: Allows you to set the start time for Profiler runs. Click the down arrows or type in a numeral to set the hours and minutes.
More button Add more Profiler start time options. Up to 24 Profiler runs per day are permitted.
Fewer button Remove Profiler start times.
Exclude: Saturday Sunday Click checkbox for day to exclude Profiler runs.
Schedule: Activate/Deactivate Click Activate to activate scheduling setup or Deactivate to ignore scheduling setup.
OK button Click to set selected options.
Reset button Click to erase selected options and return to previous settings.
Help button Click to invoke the My Compass Administrator Help.

Profiler Control Panel

The Profiler Control Panel allows you to immediately activate the Profiler and configure email particulars.

The elements of the Profiler Control Panel are:

Element Description
Activate Profiler Now button Click to immediately start the Profiler.
Allow e-mail notification Click to activate e-mail notification.
Mail undelivered newsletters to: Type in the e-mail address where undelivered newsletters should be sent.
Save e-mail Setting button Click to set the current e-mail settings.
Reset Click to erase selected options and return to previous settings.
Help button Click to invoke the My Compass Administrator Help.

Manage My Compass Users

The Manage My Compass Users window allows you to manage your site's My Compass users.

The elements of the Manage My Compass Users window are:

Element Description
Find all Click the down arrow to choose the type of My Compass users you want to find. Available options are:
  • unregistered users
  • registered users
  • subscription templates
  • invalid users
whose user ID Click the down arrows to select search options for the user ID. The search options are detailed in the following table.
blank text box The blank text box allows you to type in specific user ID.
Find button Click to start a search for the selected criteria.
Reset Click to erase selected options and return to previous settings.
Help button Click to invoke the Personalized Knowledge Services Administrator Help.

Elements of the Search Results Screen

The columns in the above listing and their meanings are:

Element Description
Return to Manage My Compass Users button Return to the previous screen.
checkbox (beside found user) Click to select the user or click again to unselect the user.
Registration Status Shows the My Compass user registration status. Options are:
  • Registered - a registered My Compass user (Clicking this link opens the Interest Profile for the user so you can modify profile elements. )
  • Unregistered - an unregistered My Compass user (Clicking this link opens a new Interest Profile for the user so you can create a user profile.)
  • Invalid - a user without a valid user ID
Name First and last name of the user.
User ID Login name of the user.
Select All Users checkbox Click to select all the listed (found) users.
Action Click the down arrow to select a registration action. Available options are:
  • Register - register as a My Compass user
  • Unregister - remove My Compass user functionality
Submit button Click to activate registration requests.

Modify Users Personal Profiles

Element Description
Active/Inactive Click the down arrow to choose registration status. Options are:
  • Active - Activate (initialize) the registration status features for this user.
  • Inactive - Turn off the registration status features for this user.
Receive newsletters via email Click the down arrow to select Yes (send newsletters with email) or No.
Email newsletter type Select either HTML (recommended) or Plain Text (if your mail program does not support HTML).
Number of matches per subscription Type in the maximum number of matching documents to send per subscription.
Next Profiler run will profile documents created: Choose how you want documents profiled. Options are:
  • since the last profiler run. -- Lists the date of the last Profiler run. Includes all documents since this date.
  • over the last -- Accumulates documents from previous Profiler runs. Type in a number and click the down arrow to select days, weeks, or months. The Profiler includes in your next newsletter all documents during this interval.
Save Changes button Click to save the changes made to this user's configuration.
Activate Profiler Now button Start the Profiler to generate documents for this user's profile.
Delete Delete this user. Generally used to remove My Compass users when they have been removed from the Compass Server user's listing.
Reset Click to erase selected options and return to previous settings.
Help Click to invoke the My Compass Administrator Help.

Purge Personal News Pages

The following describes the elements of the Purge Personal News Pages window.

Element Description
text box Type in the number of days for keeping newsletters.
Activate Purge button Click to purge newsletters older than the specified amount.
Reset button Click to erase the specified date and return to previous settings.
Help button Click to invoke this online Help.
