Each Virtualized M2 NEM provides 10 x2 SAS-2 connections for server and storage blades .
One of the functions of the Virtualized Multi-Fabric 10GbE M2 NEM SAS–2 expander supports SAS zones, which enables chassis storage to be assigned to server blades. The Sun Blade Zone Manager running on the CMM (Chassis Monitoring Module) provides a way to create and manage the assignments. The zoning is programmed on the chassis CMM using the ILOM software.
Sun Blade Zone Manager only works with server and storage blades that are SAS-2 enabled. Blade servers or storage blades installed in a chassis with a Virtualized M2 NEM that are not SAS-2 enabled will not be zoned using the Sun Blade Zone Manager.
See the following documentation for more information on zoning SAS-2 modules in the Sun Blade 6000 modular system:
Oracle Integrated Lights Out Manager (ILOM) CMM Administration Guide for information on using Sun Blade Zone Manager.
Sun Blade Storage Module M2 Administration Guide for information on zoning SAS-2 disks in the chassis.
Sun Blade 6000 Virtualized Multi-Fabric 10GbE M2 Network Express Module NEM Product Notes for information on supported server and storage modules.
Server blade documentation for information on availability of SAS-2 HBAs.
External SAS connections are not supported for the Virtualized M2 NEM.
