Systems with the Sun Storage 6 Gb SAS PCIe Internal HBA become unbootable after upgrading ILOM/BIOS firmware from SW 1.3 to 1.6, 1.7, or 1.8

Bug ID 16868222

When upgrading the Oracle ILOM and BIOS firmware of the Sun Fire X4270 M2 with an installed Sun Storage 6 Gb SAS PCIe Internal HBA card (SGX-SAS6-INT-Z or SG-SAS6-INT-Z) from system SW 1.3 to SW 1.6 or 1.7, the system might become unbootable or require rebooting shortly after the LSI controller is initialized.

Affected hardware and software:

  • Sun Fire X4170 M2 Server

  • Sun Fire X4270 M2 Server

  • Releases 1.0 through 1.10.1

Workaround:

Upgrade the HBA firmware to version 11.05.02.00 before upgrading Oracle ILOM and BIOS firmware from SW 1.3 to SW 1.6 or 1.7. The HBA firmware is available in Oracle Hardware Installation Assistant, patch 14155986 (X4170 M2) and patch 14156455 (X4270 M2).
