Preface

This document is written for system administrators of the Sun StorageTektrademark 5800 System. The administrator should be familiar with network troubleshooting and UNIX® system administrator activities.


How This Book Is Organized

Chapter 1 provides an overview of the system hardware and software, as well as an introduction to the system components and software functionality.

Chapter 2 describes the interfaces you can use to perform administrative tasks and lists which tasks are available through the command-line interface (CLI) and graphical user interface (GUI).

Chapter 3 describes the system access parameters and how to configure them.

Chapter 4 describes the network access parameters and how to configure them.

Chapter 5 describes how to start, stop, and reboot system components.

Chapter 6 describes how to set up email notifications and the system log file.

Chapter describes metadata and virtual file system views and how to configure them.

Chapter 8 describes how to get information about the system hardware and software using the CLI.

Chapter 9 describes how to get information about the system hardware and software using the GUI.

Chapter 10 describes how to protect your 5800 system from catastrophic loss.

Appendix A provides complete syntax for all CLI commands.

The Glossary provides a list of pertinent words and phrases and their definitions for the 5800 system.

These are called class options.

You must be superuser to do this.
