This chapter describes how to remove and replace the LED harness assembly in a DSM with a disk drive in it. The DSM with a disk drive has a separate LED harness assembly, which is not part of the disk drive. This LED is powered by the power supply. Replace the LED harness assembly when a LED in a DSM with a disk drive is defective.
In a DSM with a tape drive, the LED is part of the tape drive and is powered by the tape drive. When a LED in a DSM with a tape drive is defective, the tape drive needs to be replaced to have the LED function again. It is up to the owner to have the tape drive replaced. See Chapter 6 for information on removing and replacing a tape drive.
Follow Chapter 4 to select tools needed, turn off your system, disconnect the Desktop Storage Module, remove the cover, and attach the wrist strap.
Caution -
Do not disconnect the power cord from the power outlet of the system unit or from the wall outlet. This connection provides the ground path necessary for the drive.Make sure that the power of the system unit is turned off by checking that the green light-emitting diode (LED) at the front of the chassis is not lit and that the fan is not running.
