2 Removing NVSIMMs

To remove an NVSIMM, you must perform the following procedures described in Chapter 1 before proceeding with the instructions in this chapter:

The NVSIMM is mechanically removed by first rotating an ejector lever, lifting one corner of the NVSIMM and then the other, until the NVSIMM is completely removed.

To remove an NVSIMM from a system:

    1. Inspect both ends of the NVSIMM socket.

On the SPARCstation 10 and SPARCserver 10 you will find a small ejector lever on the side towards the power supply assembly.

On the SPARCstation 20 and SPARCserver 20 the ejector lever is on the side opposite the power supply assembly.

    2. Align the system so that the ejector lever is on your left.

    3. Rotate the ejection lever (A) forward, away from the NVSIMM.

    Refer to Figure 2-1.

    4. Pull up on the other side (B) of the NVSIMM.

    Refer to Figure 2-2.

    5. Pull up on both corners (B and C) of the NVSIMM until the board clears the socket.
    6. Using the procedure described in Chapter 1, move the battery jumper to the disabled location.
    7. Place the NVSIMM in an antistatic bag for protection.
    8. You can now replace the NVSIMM with a SPARCstation 10/SPARCserver 10 or SPARCstation 20 /SPARCserver 20 DSIMM if you choose.
    9. Close the system unit using the procedure described in Chapter 1.
