Planning the Installation

This chapter provides the information you need to plan to install the Sun Control Station CC Edition software, henceforth referred to as Sun Control Station software.

Installation Modules



Note - The Sun Control Station software runs on the Solaristrademark 9 Operating System and on the Solaris 10 Operating System.



The Sun Control Station application is designed to help you manage your systems. It is the framework for the following modules, which are available with the Sun Control Station installation:

Go to the Sun Download Center to download the Sun control Station CC Edition software for either the Solaris 9 OS or the Solaris 10 OS.

You can access the software manuals in PDF format from the browser interface by clicking the Help icon (question mark icon) in the upper right corner of the Sun Control Station CC Edition web page.


Dependencies, Requirements, and Limitations



Note - If you do not have the Solaris Companion CD, go to http://www.sun.com/software/solaris/freeware and click Companion Software Individual Packages Download for your Solaris OS version. At Select a Download, click the companion software for your platform. Log in to the Sun Download Center and download the packages.




System Requirements

The Sun Control Station software runs on the Solaris 9 OS and the Solaris 10 OS.



Note - The LPS application is available in the Sun Control Station software for the Solaris 9 OS. You must download and install LPS separately for the Solaris 10 OS.

Recommended Server Configuration

The Sun Control Station software works best on a dedicated server.

Caution - You mustinstall the Sun Control Station CC Edition software on a local file system of your server. You cannot install it on a remotely mounted file system.



The Sun Control Station software might affect other programs that are running on the server. The following happens when you install the Sun Control Station software:

Patches

The current installation script only checks for the latest Solaris 9 patches. Go to the sunsolve.sun.com site and search for the latest CST 3.5.2 and Solaris patches. Download the required patches, any on which they depend, and install them.

The following 32-bit linker patches are required for each Solaris based monitored system proxy:

CST 3.5.2 requires the /usr/lib/libCstd.so.1 file, which is standard in the Solaris 9 OS and the Solaris 10 OS.

Web Browser Requirements

To manage the Sun Control Station application from the browser interface, you must enable cookies, cascading style sheets, and the JavaScripttrademark settings on your browser. These features are normally enabled by default.

The Sun Control Station application is best viewed in these browsers:

Ports



Note - The server on which you install the Sun Control Station software must have a static IP address.



These ports must be available for the Sun Control Station software. You can only modify port values that are described as being default values.

Preinstallation Checklist

Before you install the Sun Control Station software, complete the tasks in the following checklist:

Verify that your system meets the requirements listed in Dependencies, Requirements, and Limitations, including prerequisite software packages (SFWmysql, SFWgcmn, and SFWncur), and in System Requirements.


If you have the Sun Net Connect software or the CST agent installed on the system, uninstall that software before installing the Sun Control Station software.

  1. Log in to the monitored system as root and change to the following directory:

# cd /opt/SUNWsrspx/bin

  1. Type the following to run the uninstall script:

# ./UninstallNetConnect.003.00x.00x.sh

For example, to uninstall Sun Net Connect 3.2, type the following:

# ./UninstallNetConnect.003.002.000.sh

  1. If the Sun Net Connect installation script installed CST, remove this package:

# pkgrm SUNWcstu

Verify that the user account has a shell associated with it and that the user can interact with the crontab entries.


Verify that the root user owns the /opt directory.
