Image Packaging System (IPS) Packages

This document discusses SVR4 packages. The Oracle Solaris 11 Express release supports SVR4 packages.

But the latest release of Oracle Solaris software is distributed in IPS packages. Image Packaging System (IPS) is a framework that enables you to install, update, and remove software packages for the Oracle Solaris operating system. IPS also enables you to create your own software packages, create and manage package repositories, and mirror existing package repositories.

For information about IPS, see the Oracle Solaris 11 Express Image Packaging System Guide.
