Additional Field Attributes
When you are creating a field, you must select a field type. Based on this type, you also need to select additional attributes. Note that not all attributes appear for all field types.
The additional field attributes are:
- a field Prompt containing additional information or instructions to help guide the user when they are entering data into this field; you can enter up to 80 characters
- Required – select this option to designate this field as mandatory, so that the user must complete this field before they can proceed
- No User-Edit – select this option to prevent the end user from editing the value in this field after the initial data have been imported
- Locale – the language of the field, listed by country; if there is no specific language that applies to this field, select Neutral
- Scope – the extent to which the value entered into this field will be written to other occurrences of this field within the form set; the possible values are Form, Global, and Section
- if you select Form, then the data entered into this field will be written to all the fields with the same name throughout all the sections within the form
- if you select Global, then the data entered into this field will automatically be written to all fields with the same name throughout all the sections and forms within the form set
- if you select Section,then the data entered into this field will be written only to the field within this section
- Length – the length of the field – the maximum value is 1,024 characters
- Format – the format of the field – applies only to Date Format, Numeric Format and Time Format fields
- Separator – the character used as the separator in Date Format and Time Format fields
- Year Size – the length of the year in Date Format fields which contain YY in their format
- possible values are 2, 4 or Default
- date format fields with YYYY or Yr are not affected by this setting
- Letter Case – the capitalization of month names in Date Format fields
- select Default if you want the month name to begin with a capital letter, for example, Februrary
- select Lowercase if you want the month name to be in all lowercase letters, for example, februrary
- select Uppercase if you want the month name to be in all uppercase letters, for example, FEBRUARY
