Working with Resources

Resources are items in a Documaker Studio library that you can include in your documents.

There are several different types of resources including fields, triggers, graphics, and recipients.

You add Documaker resources such as fields, triggers and graphics from lists of available resources into your documents. These resources can be from a workspace definition file, or can be local resources that you have created.

When you insert a resource (such as field or graphic) into a Documaker document, it becomes an element in that document which you can edit.

Other resources (such as recipients, projects, and classes) are not inserted. Instead, you apply them to the properties of a Documaker document or element.

Note   Elements and resources are closely related, so it is important to understand them before creating any resources.

After you have configured the Add-In options, you can begin planning, creating, and managing the resources that you will use in your Documaker documents.

If you have associated a Studio workspace with the Add-In, you will have many available resources to work with. If you do not need any additional resources, you can begin Working with Documaker Documents. You only need to create new resources if you think you will need additional resources that are not already in the workspace.

Finally, if you are not using a Studio workspace, you will need to create the necessary resources using the Add-In.

Tip Although you can create resources at any time, we recommend carefully planning and creating all of your required resources before working with Documaker documents.
