This document provides instructions for installing Oracle Linux, Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL), and SUSE Linux Enterprise Server (SLES) on the Sun Server X2-8. The following topics are included:

Use the Oracle Hardware Installation Assistant (OHIA) to perform deployment and recovery tasks on your x86 server.
Erase an existing hard disk partition and create a virtual disk on which to install an operating system.
Decide on a method for providing Linux installation media.
Install Oracle Linux on the Sun Server X2-8.
Install Red Hat Enterprise Linux on the Sun Server X2-8.
Install SUSE Linux on the Sun Server X2-8.
Configure a Preboot Execution Environment (PXE) server on a Linux system and use it to install Linux on the Sun Server X2-8.
Find the logical name (assigned by the OS) and the physical name (MAC address) of each network interface.

Note - The Sun Server X2-8 was formerly named the Sun Fire X4800 M2 server. This former name might still appear in the product. The name change does not indicate any change in system features or functionality.
