High-Altitude Mode Oracle ILOM Feature

The SPARC T5-series CPU provides an automatic CPU throttling feature. If the CPU detects that the temperature is too high, the CPU reduces speed until the CPU temperature drops to an acceptable level. The Netra SPARC T5-1B server module provides this feature. Under heavy loads or at higher altitudes, the CPU may throttle to maintain proper temperature.

The Sun Netra 6000 modular system fan control default allows the chassis to maintain acoustics levels within the NEBS guidelines. The High-Altitude Mode provides additional cooling to the chassis, at the expense of higher acoustics levels. This additional cooling keeps the server module CPUs cooler, which can reduce the amount and severity of throttling.
