There are six standard question types that provide a wide variety of ways to test a user's understanding of the content. Additionally, questions can be created in other applications such as Flash and brought into the Developer as User-Defined questions.

Questions are created or edited using the Question Editor. You can create the following question types:

Questions can exist as standalone documents in an outline or grouped together in an assessment. Questions are stored in the Library so they can be reused.

Note: You can modify the Question Template in the Library to customize the appearance of questions in the Developer and published output. See Customize Question Elements in the Customize the Player section of the Publish Content chapter of this guide for more information.

There are four basic components in most question types (with the exception of the User-Defined question):

Each question type (except User-Defined) contains placeholders for adding the question text, responses and remediation.

As you create a question, you can preview it at any time to review how it will function and appear to users. You can return to the question and continue editing as needed. In addition, you can change questions types at any time for a new or existing question using the Question type list in the Question Editor. Changing the question type applies the template for the selected type. Depending on the question type, some or all of your existing response text may not appear after you change question types. You can, however, return to the original question type to restore the text.

The following icons appear on the Question Editor toolbar and vary depending on the question type:

Add OptionAdd Option: Adds a new choice to the question. If a response is selected, the new response is added after the selected one. If no response is selected, a new response is added to the end of the responses but before any static responses such as None of the Above or All of the above. For Hotspot questions, adds a new hotspot that is labeled with a number one more than the previous hotspot.

After inserting the image, you can rearrange the image and question box by dragging them to other positions. To move a question box, drag it by the blue Question header at the top.

You should size an image before inserting it in the question, since it cannot be resized in the Question Editor. You can, however, resize the width of the question box by horizontally dragging any of the square edit handles that appear after you click the box. You cannot make the question box smaller than its default minimum size.

To delete an inserted image, click the image and click Delete on the toolbar. Only one image can be inserted into a question. Inserting a second image automatically replaces the first image.
