Display modes reflect the size and appearance of a gear. Most gears will have both of the available display modes:
Shared | Appears when the gear is on a portal page with other gears. |
Full Page | Appears when a user follows a link that presents the gear on a page by itself. (For example, when a user clicks on the headline of a news story.) |
You can specify only one page fragment per display mode. However, you can include any number of page fragments within that page fragment and use the internal logic of the gear to decide which one to render. For example, a discussion forum gear might require two full-page views in content mode—one to display the subject line of all the threads and postings in a forum and one to display the contents of a single message in a forum.
