Assigning Drive Groups

Sometimes you might need to assign an existing drive group to another Storage Domain.

You can add multiple drive groups to a Storage Domain at one time. Wait for any background processes to complete before assigning existing drive groups to a Storage Domain. You can view the background processes from the Tasks button on the status bar.

Reassigning drive groups from one Storage Domain to another is a two step process:
Step one

Remove the drive groups from the first Storage Domain.

You can remove multiple drive groups from a Storage Domain at one time, but you can only remove drive groups from one Storage Domain at a time. When this step completes, the drive groups are designated as unassigned.
Note: The system allows you to perform one operation to remove drive groups from a Storage Domain (or add drive groups to a Storage Domain). The add or remove operation can include multiple drive groups.

Removing the drive groups requires that the Oracle FS System migrate the data to the other drive groups in the Storage Domain. If sufficient storage capacity does not exist on the other drive groups, then the drive group removal fails.

Migrating drive group data from the drive groups can take many hours to complete, and the system migrates only one drive group at a time. To conserve system resources, plan your drive group removals carefully. You can specify the resource priority that the system uses to migrate your data. The following priorities are available to complete your request:
System Chooses

(Default) Specifies that the system balances the resources that are needed for background data movement with the resources that are needed to service the incoming client I/O.

Minimize Impact

Specifies that the system restricts the amount of system resources that are given to the background data movement operation. This option minimizes the impact on client I/O. Recommended for highly‑loaded Storage Domains.

Maximize Speed

Specifies that the system grants resource priority to the background data movement operation. This option reduces the amount of system resources that are available for client I/O. Recommended for lightly‑loaded Storage Domains.

Step two

Assign the unassigned drive groups to the second Storage Domain.
