Performing a Find Operation in Siebel Open UI

Siebel Find supports real-time database queries on a field-by-field basis. The Find functionality is independent of the search engine. The type of object that you choose from the Look In list determines whether you execute a Find or a Search operation.

Parametric search is supported for the fields of the selected Find category. The results are saved in the Find Results view until a subsequent Find operation is executed. Find results are filtered based on the user's Visibility ID. For more information on data visibility and access control, see the chapter about access control in Siebel Security Guide.

To perform a Find operation in Siebel Open UI

  1. Select Search from the application-level menu.
  2. From the Look In list, select the Find category you want to search against.

The Find categories are listed first, followed by the Search categories.

The search fields for the selected Find category are displayed.

  3. (Optional) Click Reset to clear the Find fields of the search criteria from the last Find operation.

Reset clears the search criteria from the UI, but retains the search criteria in the cache.

  4. Enter your search criteria in the fields for the selected Find category.

The search criteria for that Find category is saved until the next Find operation.

  5. Click Find to view the search results.

The results are displayed in the Find Results view.

If no results are returned, then a message similar to the following appears: Your search did not match any results.

  6. If required, create a new record from the Find Results view as follows:
    • Click New to create a new record using the search criteria which was not found.

NOTE:  The New button is only available when your find operation returns no results and the Enable New Record Feature system preference is enabled as shown in Enabling the New Button for Find Operations in Siebel Open UI.

    • Complete the remaining fields as required, and then save the record.
  7. Drill down on a result item in the Find Results view to display the record in its native view.

Enabling the New Button for Find Operations in Siebel Open UI

The following procedure shows you how to enable the New Record Feature system preference for find operations in Siebel Open UI.

To enable the New Button for Find operations in Siebel Open UI

  1. Navigate to the Administration - Application screen, then the System Preferences view.
  2. Query for the Enable New Record Feature system preference and set it to TRUE.

The default value for Enable New Record Feature is FALSE, which means that the ability to create new records from the Find Results view using search criteria that returns no results is disabled by default for find operations in Siebel Open UI.
