Requirements for Installing Oracle LDAP Client

For Siebel Innovation Pack 2015 and later, Oracle LDAP Client is integrated into the Siebel Enterprise Server installer tasks for installing the Siebel Server or Siebel Gateway Name Server. This client is available for customers using LDAP (Lightweight Directory Access Protocol) for authentication. Note the following requirements for installing and using Oracle LDAP Client:

  • To be able to install Oracle LDAP Client, for each supported operating system, you must first include it in the network image along with Siebel Enterprise Server, as noted in About the Siebel Network Image. Siebel Image Creator places the Oracle LDAP Client installer into the directory Disk1\stage, under Siebel_Enterprise_Server. The Siebel Enterprise Server installer invokes the Oracle LDAP Client installer from this location. The same network image location is used if you run the Oracle LDAP Client installer manually.

For example, the network image location might be like one of the following:

    Siebel_Image\Windows\Server\Siebel_Enterprise_Server\Disk1\stage

    Siebel_Image/Solaris/Server/Siebel_Enterprise_Server/Disk1/stage

  • The Siebel Enterprise Server installer includes an option to install Oracle LDAP Client, in the Enterprise Security Authentication Profile screen. If you select the option Lightweight Directory Access Protocol (LDAP) Client, then Oracle LDAP Client is installed, silently, at the end of the Siebel Enterprise Server installation. The Siebel Enterprise Server installation task is described in Installing Siebel Enterprise Server.
  • If Oracle LDAP Client installation fails for any reason, then the Siebel Enterprise Server installation also fails and displays an error message. Correct the error and restart the Siebel Enterprise Server installer.

If Oracle LDAP Client is not present in the network image, then selecting its option in the installer leads to an installation validation error. Restart the Siebel Enterprise Server installer and do not select Oracle LDAP Client.

TIP:   Alternatively, if Oracle LDAP Client exists in a network image location other than what was noted earlier, then you can edit the oneclick.properties file for the Siebel Enterprise Server installer to specify this location. In this case, restart the Siebel Enterprise Server installer and select Oracle LDAP Client.

Possible failures for LDAP Client installation include:

    • Required kernel patches missing
    • Insufficient swap space
    • Multiple users with same user IDs in passwd file
  • Install Oracle LDAP Client through the Siebel Enterprise Server installer only for deployments with databases other than Oracle Database. For Oracle Database, do not select the option in the Siebel Enterprise Server installer to install Oracle LDAP Client. Instead, you can install Oracle LDAP Client manually, as described in Siebel Security Guide.

NOTE:  If you install Oracle LDAP Client with a Siebel Enterprise Server that connects to an Oracle Database, then this installation resets the existing Oracle Home defined for Oracle Database Client to the newly installed Oracle LDAP Client. Consequently, Siebel Business Applications will be unable to connect to the database.

  • Oracle LDAP Client is installed with Siebel Enterprise Server in a new installation only. It is not included in a migration installation from any prior release.
  • Oracle LDAP Client is provided with the current release of Siebel CRM. The Oracle LDAP Client installation includes Oracle Wallet Manager. Required Oracle LDAP Client patches are also installed when you install Siebel Enterprise Server with Oracle LDAP Client. For version information, see the Certifications tab on My Oracle Support.
  • Before you install Siebel Enterprise Server with Oracle LDAP Client, verify that your server operating system has all required patches. Install any required operating system patches before proceeding. For more information, see the Certifications tab on My Oracle Support.
  • If your installation tasks did not install Oracle LDAP Client with Siebel Enterprise Server, but you still require it on applicable servers, then you can install Oracle LDAP Client manually. Manual installation of Oracle LDAP Client, and separate manual installation of applicable patches for Oracle LDAP Client, are described in Siebel Security Guide. For example, you might install Oracle LDAP Client manually in the following cases:
    • After a migration installation of Siebel Enterprise Server from an earlier release.
    • If you require Oracle LDAP Client for use in a deployment with Oracle Database.
    • If you have an existing installation of Oracle LDAP Client that is below the minimum version required. For version information, see the Certifications tab on My Oracle Support.
  • Cloning is not supported for Oracle LDAP Client, which must be excluded if you clone an installed source instance of Siebel Enterprise Server. To do this, you must specify the full path of the Oracle LDAP Client installation directory in the exclude list of the source properties file, for either a full clone or a delta clone operation. An example installation location on Windows is C:\siebel\15.0.0.0.0\ses\LDAPClient. If you specify the location incorrectly, then you will not be able to use LDAP on the target computer. If necessary, you can install Oracle LDAP Client manually on the target computer. For more information about cloning for Siebel Enterprise Server, see Cloning a Siebel Installation.
  • Regardless of how it was installed, Oracle LDAP Client is not uninstalled with Siebel Enterprise Server. You must uninstall Oracle LDAP Client as a separate task, using a command-line method. For more information, see Uninstalling Oracle LDAP Client.
  • For more information about using Oracle LDAP Client with Siebel Business Applications, and about installing Oracle LDAP Client manually, see Siebel Security Guide.
