Updating the Software and Firmware

An update operation installs a new version of software or firmware onto an Oracle FS System. You can manually update the software or the firmware using Oracle FS System Manager (GUI).

You must download the software and firmware updates from My Oracle Support (MOS) to your local host, stage the software and firmware updates on the Pilot to prepare the system for the update, ensure that there are no system alerts and that all statuses are normal in the GUI, and then update the software and firmware.

An update affects one or more of the following components:

Drive Enclosure
- Drive firmware
  
  Note: Drive firmware is listed by drive type (for example, Hitachi 300Gb HDD or SanDisk 1600GB SSD). Updating the drive firmware requires a system restart.
- Enclosure Firmware
  
  Note: Enclosure Firmware is listed by type and version (for example, Enclosure Firmware Xrtx Ebod 7044319).
Pilot
- Pilot Software
- Pilot OS
Controller
- Oracle FS1-2 Controller Software
- Controller BIOS
  
  Note: Controller BIOS is listed by model number (for example, M3 Controller BIOS). Updating the Controllers requires a system restart.

Note: A software update always includes the Pilot Software and the Oracle FS1-2 Controller Software. The Pilot Software and the Oracle FS1-2 Controller Software must be installed at the same time and their versions must match.
