Starting in version 6.0.1, you can run your Guided Search application in one of the following modes:
Presentation API mode: The MDEX Engine runs in a mode designed to communicate exclusively with the Endeca Java or .NET Presentation API, using a proprietary communications protocol. This was the only mode available prior to version 6.0.
Web services mode: The MDEX Engine runs in a mode designed to communicate with standards-compliant Web services clients, using standard protocols and syntax such as HTTP and XML.
