Help for Help

An extensive online help is available in several languages in the MICROS Retail OSCAR POS program to support you during your work with the system.

The online help provides simple and fast information on the processes you are undergoing at the time. The functions or commands you do not know are explained here.


Selection of language

Certain preconditions must be met depending on the operating system under which the MICROS Retail OSCAR POS program is installed if access to the help system is required. The language required can be set as a default or can be selected from the menu.

The following applies for operating system UNIX:

Draw up the following symbolic links to have access to the help files in the various languages.

The following applies to operating system WIN-NT:

Acess to the MICROS Retail OSCAR POS Help system under WIN-NT assumes that Internet explorer 4.0 and Servicepack 3 have been installed. If Internet explorer 4.0 is installed retrospectively the following sequence must be adhered to:

  1. Installation of Service pack 3
  2. Installation of Internet explorer 4.0
  3. Installation of MICROS Retail OSCAR POS program

Calling the Help Function

There are different ways to call the Online Help. How the help function is shown, depends on which program you are working with in the system and which type of help information you require. However, it is possible, that not all of the help topics of all the programs are supported.

You can do the following to access Help:

If you wish that the Help Window stays constantly in the foreground and displays constantly the actual help information, you can activate the switch Permanent Help.


Calling Help from the Help Menu

The Help menu is the last menu title on the menu bar. If you access Help from the menu bar, a list of help topics will be shown.

  1. Click on the menu Help.
  2. Click on the desired Help Topic.

or:

  1. Press the keys <ALT>H.
  2. Enter the underlined letter for the desired topic. Or press the <Arrow Up Key> or the <Arrow Down Key> to get to the desired topic, and then ENTER.

Note: If you are using the Online Help for the first time, choose the topic Help from the menu Help.


Permanent Help

If you need Help information constantly, you can switch on the Permanent Help option. This option is an item under the Help menu.

If this switch is activated, the Help information of the input field, with which you are working in the active program, will be displayed.

If this switch is deactivated, you can obtain the Help information only when the <F1> key is pressed.


Entry help

In addition to the context-sensitive help offered in the MICROS Retail OSCAR POS program the user can also can also call up help texts for the fields in the entry masks. These texts must be updated for every field and every entry mask in program System -> User interface -> CTRL Help texts.

The mask is as follows if the mouse is positioned in this field.
