TopKey / MF keyboard

The MICROS Retail keyboard "TopKey" can also be programmed as a replacement for a PC MF keyboard to allow entries to be made at the administration desk.

The following steps are necessary if the MICROS Retail keyboard "TopKey" is to be used as the PC MF keyboard:

  1. The user should have knowledge of the keyboard operation of the Windows user menu.
  2. Draw up a pattern for assignment of the TopKey keys using the keys of a MF keyboard.
  3. Call up program Entry help under System to set the lock-in function. The setting defines that key sequences can be generated with the Shift, Strg or Alt key.
  4. Install the external program "Keyboard" to program the TopKey keyboard with the keys of the MF keyboard. Operation of program "Keyboard" can be found in the online help for this program. Keyboard program provides a review of the operation details.
    Note:
Please note that the standard setting from the factory is overwritten after the TopKey keyboard has been programmed with "Keyboard", i.e. the keyboard must be re-programmed with the factory setting if the keyboard is to be used as a terminal keyboard.
  5. Program a device of type PS2 keyboard for the processing unit of the terminal.

·        Link the number of the keyboard in which the key assignment is stored for the terminal functions in field Keyboard no..

·        Link the number of the keyboard table in which the key assignment has been stored for the MF keyboard in field Keyboard type.

·        Use PS2 key link to open a table in which the decimal key codes for each key of the TopKey keyboard should be entered.

·        The key value is ascertained by connecting up the keyboard to the PS2 port of the system unit and setting the debug level in program PS2 keyboard to 2. Depress the keys on this keyboard in succession. File "..\work\errlog" provides a protocol in decimal values of the key codes for all depressed keys.

6.      If additional devices, e.g. magnetic card reader, central lock, waiter lock, etc. are connected to this keyboard, the appropriate key codes can be entered as trailer and header data in the PS2 keyboard via the button "PS2 device data format".
