Archiving Orders to Optical Disk (AOPT)

Purpose: Use the Archive Orders to Optical Disk function to archive purged orders to an optical disk storage device. By using such a device, you can clear outdated orders from your main storage but still be able to review or maintain the orders if necessary.

Overview: If the Archive Orders to Optical Disk (D81) field in the System Control file is set to Y, the system does not actually purge outdated orders when you run the Purge Orders function; instead, it retain the orders on the system in a P status. You can then use the Archive Orders to Optical Disk function to copy the order records to optical disk and complete the purge, using a staging library as temporary storage during the process. The system retains only the order header records so that you can select an archived order in Order Inquiry or Order Maintenance; an archived order has a status of A.

Order inquiry and maintenance: If you review an archived order without maintaining it, the order remains on the optical disk. If you select the order for maintenance (either by pressing F7 in Order Inquiry, or by selecting the order from an Order Maintenance scan screen), the system copies the order to your main storage and deletes it from the optical disk. Even if you subsequently press F11 to exit from maintaining the order without saving changes, the order will remain in your main storage; however, it will be eligible for purging the next time you use the Purge Orders function.

For more information: See Customer Service Using the Order Inquiry Scan Screens (OIOM) and Customer Service Introducing Order Maintenance.

Note: You must have an optical disk installed on your system and use OpstorTM Optical Database Access Software from the Midrange Performance GroupTM in order to use this option. Contact your MICROS representative for more information.

Field

Description

(Tape device for archive library)

You can use this field to define a tape device for the system to backup a copy of the purged orders, in addition to the optical disk.

Alphanumeric, 10 positions; optional.

Instructions:

1. Optionally, enter the name of a tape device to backup purged orders.

2. The Confirm prompt appears in the bottom right corner. The default value is N (no). Press Enter to cancel the archive; otherwise, enter Y in the prompt field.

3. The system submits the OPTICALARC job and returns you to the previous screen. This job copies all order records with a P status to the optical disk staging library (CWMPOPT), copies these records to the optical disk, and then clears the staging library. The system retains the order header records in A status so that you can select an archived order for inquiry or maintenance.

Note: See Order-Related Files. Order records in each of these files, with the exception of the Order Header file, are purged from main storage and archived to optical disk.
