Editing Filters and the Filters panel

Once you have created a Visual Insight quick dashboard, you can determine how the Filters panel is displayed to a user. For example, you can choose to add or remove filters from the Filters panel, collapse or expand individual filters, or display or hide the entire Filters panel.

The table below lists the ways in which you can edit filters or the Filters panel, and steps to do so.

Add a filter to the Filters panel

From the Dataset Objects panel, click and drag the report object you want to use to filter data to the Filters panel. The report object is added as a new filter in the Filters panel. Move a filter in the Filters panel

From the Filters panel, click and drag the header of the filter to a new location. You can move it above or below existing filters in the Filters panel.

Remove a filter from the Filters panel

  1. Hover the cursor over the Filters panel, then click the arrow icon displayed in the top right of the panel. A list of options is displayed.

  2. Select Remove Filter.

  3. A message is displayed, asking whether you want to clear the selections in the filter. Select one of the following:

    • To clear the selections and remove the filter, click OK.

    • To return to the quick dashboard without removing the filter, click Cancel.

Determine whether to automatically apply selections made in the Filters panel

You can choose to automatically filter data when the user makes selections in a filter, or filter data only when the user clicks Apply in the Filters panel.

  1. Hover the cursor over the Filters panel, then click the arrow icon displayed in the top right of the panel. A list of options is displayed.

  2. Do one of the following:

    • To automatically filter data when the user makes selections in a filter, select Auto-Apply Changes.

    • To filter data only when the user clicks Apply in the Filters panel, clear Auto-Apply Changes.

Determine whether to expand or collapse the display of all filters in the Filters panel

  1. Hover the cursor over the Filters panel, then click the arrow icon displayed in the top right of the panel. A list of options is displayed.

  2. Do one of the following:

    • To expand and display all filters in the Filters panel, select Expand All.

    • To collapse all filters in the Filters panel, displaying only their headers, select Collapse All.

Move the Filters panel to the bottom or left side of the quick dashboard

  1. Hover the cursor over the Filters panel, then click the arrow icon displayed in the top right of the panel. A list of options is displayed.

  2. Point to Display, then select one of the following:

    • To move the Filters panel to the bottom of the quick dashboard, select Horizontally. The Filters panel is moved to the bottom of the quick dashboard, with the filters displayed next to each other in a horizontal layout.

    • To move the Filters panel to the left side of the quick dashboard, select Vertically. The Filters panel is moved to the left side of the quick dashboard, with the filters displayed in a vertical list layout.

 

Show or hide the Filters panel

 

From the toolbar, do one of the following:

  • To show the Filters panel, click the Show Filters icon.

  • To hide the filters panel, click the Hide Filters icon.
