Configuring Room Types

A room type code is used to identify each category of room available at your property. For example, you might configure room types that reflect the primary characteristic of the room -- Deluxe, Superior, Standard in combination with thee bedding – Twin, King, Double/Double.

Rate code pricing schedules are setup for each room type and availability is calculated and displayed by room type. OPERA Cloud also tracks revenue statistics by room type.

There are two varieties of room types in OPERA Cloud

  • Physical - Inventory room types tracked in availability; rooms configured for these room types count towards the OPERA Cloud subscription.

  • Pseudo - Non-inventory room types not tracked in availability; rooms configured for these room types do not count towards the OPERA Cloud subscription. The "PM" pseudo room type is pre-configured on provisioning of OPERA Cloud;  other pseudo room types can be configured as needed. You can configure other room types such as "HOUSE', 'PERMNT' or 'INTRFACE' to suit your needs

When the Room Class OPERA Control is active all room types (including pseudo) are linked to a room class. Operational , forecast and statistical reports can be filtered by room class. For more information, see Configuring Room Classes.

When the Component Rooms OPERA Control is active you can also configure virtual room types which are also tracked in availability as an inventory room type. A component room consists of multiple inter-connecting rooms (one or more room types) that define the component room type.  A pricing schedule can be set and a reservation can be made for a component room type. When a reservation is made for a component room type, OPERA Cloud deducts one room from the component room type, as well as one room from each of the physical room types that make up the component room type.  When the Component Verification OPERA Control is active OPERA Cloud tracks availability of the component room type at a room "number" level; meaning once a room making up a component room type is assigned to a reservation the room type is deducted from inventory.

Note:

Component rooms do not count towards the Oracle Hospitality OPERA Cloud Service, Property Management Foundation subscription.

Creating a Room Type

Enter the following information, and then click Save::
  1. Physical: Select to configure the room as a physical room to include in the inventory.

  2. Pseudo: Select to configure the room as a posting master room. Pseudo rooms do not affect your property's inventory. The room type selected as Pseudo at the template level cannot be changed when it is copied to other properties.

  3. Component Room: Select to configure the room type as Component Room. A component room is comprised of multiple inter-connecting rooms (two or more room types), which define the new Component Room room type. When a reservation is made for a Component Room, OPERA Cloud deducts one room from the Component Room room type, and one room from each of the component room's physical rooms.

  4. Accessible Room Type: Select to configure the Room Type as Accessible Room Type. All the rooms configured for the room type would automatically default to Accessible Rooms.(Available when the AI Room Assignment OPERA Control is active).

Maximum Occupancy can be used alone or in combination with Maximum Adults and/or Maximum Children. These values are referenced throughout OPERA Cloud, for example, when a room is assigned to a reservation, when rates are set up based on occupancy, and when a room move is performed. A message prompts you when the maximum number of persons exceed for a specific room. When used alone, Maximum Occupancy sets the limit on the number of persons (adults and children) that may occupy rooms of this room type. For example, if Maximum Occupancy is 3 and Maximum Adults and Maximum Children are not defined (null values), the room could be occupied by any mix of adults and children not to exceed 3 persons: by 3 adults, or by 2 adults and 1 child, or by 1 adult and 2 children, or by 3 children, etc. When Maximum Occupancy is used with Maximum Adults and/or Maximum Children, the number of persons occupying the room may not exceed Maximum Occupancy, nor may the individual limits on the number of adults (Maximum Adults) and/or the number of children (Maximum Children) be exceeded. This means that the Maximum Adults value and the Maximum Children values cannot be individually greater than the Maximum Occupancy value.
    27. Room Features: Select the default room features for the room type. Selected features are copied to all rooms created of this room type. These default features may be changed on individual rooms when the room is configured.  For more information, see Configuring Room Features .
