GUI Limitations and Deviations from Former GUI
The new Graphical User Interface (GUI) has limitations in the way it presents itself that the user may incorrectly identify as software defects in P-CZ3.2.0. Some users familiar with typical GUI mechanisms may find these limitations to be inconsistent with what they consider normal, expected behavior.
Limitations in the New GUI
Oracle has determined that the following limitations are based on the software architecture used to develop the OECB GUI interface. Oracle expects resolutions to these limitations in ensuing architecture uplifts:
- When you double click a row in a table, the GUI does not open the table item in edit mode. Instead, the GUI displays a control (cog wheel icon) when you mouse over the row. Click this control to display a menu with applicable commands. (Fixed as of 3.2.0p1)
- When you mouse-over a pane table, the GUI does not display a tool tip.
- The GUI does not provide auto-refresh or individual refresh buttons for widgets on the Home tab. Use the refresh button at the top of the Home tab page to refresh all widgets simultaneously.
- The GUI does not always open a dialog when you click the button. Instead the GUI opens a new page with back/cancel buttons.
- When you click a list item or tab that is already has the focus (cursor), the GUI does not reload the item.
- The GUI does not display item dropdowns from a combo-box using fields that are equal length.
- If you maximize the Alarm widget on the Home Tab, you cannot clear individual rows. (Fixed as of 3.2.0p1)
- Resizing the browser corrupts the display of current tables. Maximizing and minimizing the browser does not.
- You cannot hide columns in tables displayed on the Home tab.
- If you make a configuration setting and switch to the Monitoring, System or Home tab before saving the setting, the GUI neither saves the setting, nor provides any warning (discard message) that you are about to lose the setting.
- Closing OECB GUI dialogs
using the
X icon "masks" the
GUI. Refresh the browser and Login again to remove this "mask". (Fixed as of
3.2.0p1)
Note that closing OECB GUI dialogs using the Close button works as designed.
- As of 3.2.0p1, maximized screens do not dot display properly, with the exception of Widgets in the home page.
- The Add button under System, File Management, LST does not work, however, the upload and remove functions are working properly.
- From the Configuration page, Commands is not provided for username=user.
- Under Monitor and Trace, Widgets, Commands, the Broker lookup and Ping Command fields are not enabled for username=user.
- On the System page, Set Boot Parameter and Upgrade Software are incorrectly present for username=user, however, the functionality is disabled.
Deviations from Former GUI
Oracle has determined that the new GUI has deviations in the way it presents itself that the user may have become familiar with via former software versions. Some users familiar with the former GUI may find these deviations to be inconsistent with what they consider normal, expected behavior.
- Refresh, Settings, Export and Show Information buttons are moved from the Home page widget display to the Maximized widget display.
- The Home Page's Refresh, Add Widget and Reset controls now apply to the Home page only. You now refresh all widgets from Home page, and must maximize individual widgets to refresh them individually.
- Pagination has been introduced for tables to account for large numbers of records. You can now specify the number of rows in the display. The OECB now uses that number to establish pages of rows, and allows you to quickly browse through these pages to access specific rows more quickly.
- Widgets on the Home page now auto-arrange when you add and delete them.
- All device Configuration is now accessible from the Configuration tab. The Preferences setting, now available from the User's drop-down menu, allows you to list configuration elements hierarchically or alphabetically.
- Widget and Monitoring and Trace controls are now available from a single tab named "Monitoring".
- File Management controls are now available from the System tab.
- The Force HA Switchover, Reboot and Support information access controls are now provided as tabs at the top right corner of the System tab dialog.
- The Set Boot Parameters dialog is now available from the System tab.
- The Wizards and Commands categories of functions have been moved to the left panel of the Configuration tab.
- All labels, headings, and text-based names are now displayed using an Initial Capital letter format.
- Tool tips are moved from the text labeling configuration fields to the fields themselves.
- The GUI displays a control (cog wheel icon) when you mouse over rows. Click this control to display a menu with applicable commands.
- The verify-config command is available at multiple locations in the GUI, which now includes a button at the top of the Configuration tab towards the right side.
- Fields that accept numeric values now include increment/decrement buttons to enhance your ability to set those fields.
- Widget tiles on the home page no longer have tile-specific Settings and Collapse controls. Tile-specific widget controls now include only Export, Remove, Maximize and Move.
- The GUI no longer includes any time/date selection controls. Instead, a text field is now available to specify time searches in the Monitor and Trace tools. A tool tip also provided the valid input format for those fields.
