Site categories allow you to define different default values for a property on a per-category basis. These values are associated with the property in the repository.

To add a default value, create a copy of the siteConfiguration property in the site category, and then set its value in the site category. Whenever a site is based on that category, the value is copied to the siteConfiguration property of the same name.

For example, if you have a property in the siteConfiguration named property1, create a property in your siteTemplate item in the siteRepository.xml, also named property1. Update the property with your default value and create the property1 column in your database.

When an existing site category is updated, the site administrator is informed that changes have been made and is presented with the new property. The site must be deployed to production before the property can be used.
