Selecting a range of refinement values

For some attributes, you can refine by a range of values instead of choosing specific values.

By default, range selections are enabled for numeric, date, and time values and display the current minimum and maximum values for the selected attribute. Range filters display a histogram which shows how the values are distributed within the range. Hover over a histogram bar to see the range of values for that bar and the number of matching records in that range.

If you want to choose a specific value instead of a range, use the value list toggle icon:

For information on selecting refinement values from a list, see Selecting refinement values for filtering.

Date/time values also offer a recurring range selection option. See Selecting a recurring date/time.

To select a range of refinement values:

  1. In the Refine By panel, expand the attribute you want to use for filtering.
  2. In the range drop-down, select the range type:
    • Between two values or dates/times (the default)
    • Less than a value or Before a date/time
    • Greater than a value or After a date/time
  3. Specify the necessary values by entering them in the fields (or by using the date picker for dates).
Alternately, drag the black range selection arrows to select value ranges from the histogram.
  4. Click Submit.

The selected range is added to the Selected Refinements panel.

If you submit a different range value for the same attribute, the existing refinement is replaced by the new refinement.

  5. After you submit a range filter refinement, you can use the range type toggle to change the displayed range on the histogram. This does not affect the selected refinement.

    You can either display:
    • The full range of available values (limited by any other selected refinements).
    • The current range of available values based on refinements to the attribute.
