Running Planning Import and Export

To import or export data or metadata using Oracle Hyperion Planning Import and Export:

  1. Back up the application and application databases before loading information. See the Oracle Enterprise Performance Management System Backup and Recovery Guide.
  2. Optional: If importing, create a command properties file (.properties). See Command Properties File.
  3. If importing, generate a load file for each dimension or set of data that you want to load. See Generating Load Files.
  4. Log in to the Planning application.
  5. Select Administration, then Import and Export, and then select a task:
  6. Click Run.
  7. Optional: Clear any temporary files that were generated during the import or export. See Clearing EPM Oracle Instance Tmp Directory Files.

When importing data or metadata, you have the option of running the import in the background. Click Run In Background on the progress bar to enable background processing.

When exporting data, if the data export exceeds three minutes in duration, the following message will display and the export will automatically run in the background:

"The export has exceeded the maximum configured wait time and will now be performed in the background. To check export status, open the Import and Export Status page. Note that exported data files should be downloaded and saved because they may be periodically removed from temporary locations on the server."

Once this message displays, clicking View Status or selecting Tools, and then Import and Export Status will display a Processing status in the Status column. When the data export is complete, the Status column will display a Complete status. Selecting the Complete status will launch the View Status window and display a green arrow. Click the green arrow to download the exported file from a temporary location and save it to a permanent location. If the file in the temporary location no longer exists, the following message is displayed:

"The file that you tried to download no longer exists on the server. Export your data again."

Note:

You cannot run the Export Metadata operation in the background.
