Validations for Sections in Statement Definitions

Tutorial (Release 9.2 Update): Click here to view a recording of this feature.

As you add row definitions and column definitions to a section in a statement definition, the system performs validations. A section can include one row definition only, or it can include one or more row definitions and one or more column definitions.

The Statement Definitions program enforces the following rules when you add or edit a statement definition:

  • All row definitions in a section must have the same characteristics, with a few exceptions.

    For example:

    • If you create a section using a row definition with the data type and with grouping elements, then all subsequent row definitions that you add to the section must be the data type with grouping elements, must use the same grouping elements, and must have the same settings for the Enable Level of Detail Rollup and Include GLG AAI Item Number check boxes.

    • If you create a section using a row definition with the data type and without grouping elements, then all subsequent row definitions that you add to the section must be the data type and without grouping elements.

    • The exception to the general rule of having row definitions with the same characteristics is that you can use both a text value and a numeric value row definition type in the same section.

    • All subtotal row definitions must be in a section without any other row definitions.

  • Each data with grouping elements row definition in a section must have at least one column definition and must use the same column definitions for all row definitions in the section.

You do not enter column definitions for numeric value or text value row definitions.

  • Each data with no grouping elements row definition in a section must have at least one column definition and must use the same column definitions for all row definitions in the section.

  • The text value, numeric value, and subtotal row definitions cannot have associated columns in the section.

  • Each row definition can be used once only in a section.

You can, however, use the same row definition in multiple sections.

  • Each column definition can be used once only in a section.

You can, however, use the same column definition in multiple sections.

  • If you add, modify, or delete a column definition in a section, the system applies the changes to all row definitions in the section.

  • The system assigns the next number in the section numbering sequence when you add a row definition if you do not enter a section number.

When you add a row definition, the system assumes that the row definition is in a new section and assigns the row a new section number. You can change the section number to an existing section number to add the row definition to the existing section. When you add the row definition to an existing section, the system performs validations.

  • The system uses the name of the first row definition in a section as the section description.

You can change the section description.

  • Each section description must be unique.

  • Each column title in a section must be unique.

  • If you do not enter a line number, the system uses the next number in the line number sequence.

You can change the line numbers as long as you do not attempt to number a line with a number that is already used. Each line number must be unique even if the lines are in different sections.
