Add AI Descriptions to a Subject Area

Add AI Descriptions to provide Oracle Analytics AI Assistant with the business context it needs to interpret subject area columns accurately.

AI Descriptions explain details that column names and synonyms alone can’t convey, such as a measure’s unit, a value format, or an aggregation rule. Use them to document business information that affects how the Assistant selects columns, applies filters, or interprets results.

Alternatively, administrators can export a CSV file containing the AI Descriptions and distribute it to business users to update with AI Descriptions. When complete, the administrator imports the modified CSV file into Oracle Analytics. See About Managing Data Model Indexing, Synonyms, and AI Descriptions Using a CSV File.

  1. On your home page, click Navigator Navigator icon used to display the Navigator, then click Console.
  2. Under Configuration and Settings, click Search Index.
  3. In the Data Model tab, locate the subject area you want to provide AI descriptions for and click its corresponding Assistants checkbox to activate the AI Descriptions field.
  4. Click the AI Descriptions field and update the AI descriptions:
    • To manually update the subject area's description or a subject area's column description, click its description and enter a description. For the best results, avoid repeating the column name or using alternate names.
    • To use AI to generate descriptions for the subject area's description and the descriptions (empty and existing) of the subject area's columns, click the Generate all menu and select All attributes (overwrite existing).
    • To use AI to generate descriptions for the subject area's empty column descriptions only, click the Generate all menu and select Only empty attributes.
