About Indexing Subject Areas for Oracle Analytics AI Assistants and Home Page Search

Administrators can control which subject areas and columns in the data model are indexed, and whether the Oracle Analytics AI Assistants, home page, or both can use the indexed data in their responses.

Use the Data Model tab on the Console's Search Index page to configure subject area indexing.

Choose How Indexed Data Is Used

Use the Assistants and Homepage Search options to specify how Oracle Analytics uses indexed subject area data.

  • Assistants: Allows Oracle Analytics AI Assistants to use the selected subject area data when responding to natural-language prompts.

  • Homepage Search: Allows Home Page search to use the selected subject area data when users search for content from the Home page search bar.

Select only the subject areas and columns needed to provide useful responses and search results. Indexing too much unrelated data can reduce relevance, slow responses, and increase processing costs. In particular, indexing more than 500 columns can affect Assistant response time and relevance. See Improve Responses from Oracle Analytics AI Assistant.

Improve Assistant Responses with AI Descriptions

Use AI Descriptions to provide additional semantic context for subject area columns that Oracle Analytics AI Assistants use. AI Descriptions explain business meaning and details that column names and synonyms alone don’t convey.

Column names and synonyms help the Assistant identify a column. AI Descriptions help the Assistant interpret its values correctly. For example, use an AI Description to:
  • Distinguish between similar columns.
  • Explain a measure’s grain, unit, or scale.
  • Describe how column values are formatted.
  • Explain a relationship or dependency between columns.
  • Identify important inclusions and exclusions.

For example, if a Consolidated Total value already includes other invoice types, add an AI Description that explains the rule. This helps the Assistant avoid aggregating the consolidated total with its component values.

AI Descriptions define subject area semantics. They don’t replace Agent supplemental instructions, which define how an Agent behaves and responds to users. A column AI Description can be used by multiple Agents.

Protect Sensitive Data

Avoid indexing columns that contain sensitive data. Indexed values can be exposed in search results and in responses from Oracle Analytics AI Assistants.

If you must index a sensitive column, select the Sensitive Data option to restrict visibility to authorized users and their permissible data. Indexed data is visible only to users who have access to that column.

About Dataset Indexing

You configure dataset indexing is configured separately from subject area indexing. Dataset owners use the Search tab on a dataset’s Inspect page to configure indexing, synonyms, and AI Descriptions.
