About Monitoring and Managing AIDP Unit Usage

You can use the Console's Generative AI page and the AIDP Units Usage Settings dialog to monitor your AIDP Unit consumption, track your organization’s monthly allowance, and manage alerts and overage usage for Oracle Analytics Cloud AI features.

Compare Relative Model Cost

The Approximate Relative Cost column on the Console's Generative AI page helps administrators compare the expected AIDP Unit consumption of models available in their region. The values are a relative comparison, not a currency conversion or a prediction of the AIDP Units used by an individual request.

To compare models for a similar request, divide each model’s displayed value by the lowest displayed value among the models available in your region. For example, if your available models show values of 125x and 250x, the model shown as 250x has approximately twice the relative cost for equivalent work.

Note:

Model availability and relative-cost values can vary by region and release. Compare only the models available in the same Oracle Analytics Cloud region. Don't use the relative-cost value to calculate a currency charge.

Use the relative-cost information together with your organization’s quality, capability, and consumption requirements when assigning models to AI Assistant features.

Monitor Monthly Consumption

The Monthly Consumption column on the Console's Generative AI page shows the AIDP Units actually consumed during the current month for a model or AI Assistant feature. Use this value to monitor observed usage against your organization’s allowance.

Monthly Consumption is not a measure of model efficiency or a currency charge. It reflects both the selected model and the workload processed, including request volume, request complexity, content and dataset size, and any compute provisioned for the interaction.

Understand Your Monthly AIDP Units Allowance

Your organization receives a monthly AIDP Unit allowance. This allowance automatically renews each month, is shared across supported AI features, and is consumed as users interact with AI in Oracle Analytics Cloud. The number of AIDP Units depends on the compute size of your Oracle Analytics Cloud. The AIDP Units Usage Settings dialog enables administrators to review the included, used, and remaining AIDP Units allowance for the current month; configure usage alerts; control overage spending; and manage how Oracle Analytics Cloud responds when AIDP Unit limits are reached.

If your organization consumes its monthly AIDP Units allowance, the AI-powered features may stop processing requests, users may receive messages indicating that limits have been reached, and users may need to contact an administrator for assistance.

Note:

Oracle Analytics Cloud governs AIDP Unit consumption through model-based usage thresholds. Customers exceeding these thresholds may purchase additional AIDP Units, opt in to usage-based billing for AIDP Units consumed, or switch to a free LLM option.

Oracle Analytics Cloud provides AIDP Unit usage visibility, configurable budget limits, alerts, and model cost controls.

While governance capabilities became available in the May 2026 update, overage charges will not begin until on or after September 30, 2026, to allow customers time to evaluate usage patterns and available options.

Manage Consumption and Avoid Interruptions

Administrators can use one or more of these options to manage AIDP Unit consumption:

  • Configure threshold alerts to notify administrators and users before the monthly allowance is exhausted.
  • Review usage patterns and restrict selected high-consumption AI Assistant features, if appropriate.
  • Limit access to high-consumption workflows for selected users.
  • Assign a lower-cost available model to an AI Assistant feature.
  • Use a free or legacy model, where available.
  • Allow overage usage, if appropriate for your organization.

Configure Alerts and Overage Usage

Administrators can use the AIDP Units Usage Settings dialog to enable overages configure alerts for administrators and users to receive email notifications when AIDP Unit consumption reaches a specified threshold. Alerts help organizations proactively monitor usage and manage AI consumption before AIDP Units are depleted. If the administrator enables overages, Oracle Analytics Cloud continues processing AI requests after the included AIDP Unit allowance is exhausted. Additional consumption is billed according to AIDP billing.

Prerequisites for Managing AIDP Units Usage Settings

Before you manage AIDP Units usage settings, ensure that these prerequisites are met.

  • You have the BI Service Administrator application role or belong to an application role with the Manage LLMs permission to manage AIDP Units usage for your organization.
  • Your OCI administrator set up AIDP Units usage billing for additional usage. See Enable Overage Billing for AI Tokens.
