Visualization Legend Properties

You can customize the configuration and appearance of a legend on a visualization using the legend properties in the General tab.

Oracle Analytics automatically adds a legend to a visualization when you use columns in the Color, Size, or Shape drop-targets in the Grammar pane, or when a visualization uses multiple measures or a trellis. Visualizations that rely on a color scale, such as grid heat maps, treemaps, and maps also automatically include a legend.

Legend Position

Specifies the location of the legend on the visualization, or hide it.

Options
  • Auto: Displays the legend based on the space available on the visualization.
  • None: Hides the legend.
  • Left
  • Right
  • Top
  • Bottom
Legend Max Size

Specifies the size of the legend.

Options
  • Auto: Adjusts the legend size based on the text in the legend and the space available on the visualization. The maximum legend size for this option is 150 pixels.
  • Custom: Lets you enter the maximum size of the legend in pixels. If the legend is on the left or right of the visualization, the max size refers to the width. If the legend is on the top or bottom, the max size refers to the height.
Legend Title

Specifies whether the legend title displays and how it's generated.

Options
  • Auto: Uses the column name as the legend title.
  • Custom: Lets you name the legend.
  • None: Doesn't use a title.
Legend Title Font

Specifies the font type, size, style, and color for the title text.

Legend Labels Font

Specifies the font type, size, style, and color for the label text.

Single Item Legend

Specifies whether or not a legend displays when there's only one item.

Options
  • Auto: Doesn't display a legend if there's only one legend item unless the Legend Position property is set to Left, Right, Top, or Bottom.
  • Show: Displays a legend regardless of the number of legend items.
  • Hide: Doesn't display a legend if there's only one legend item.
