Choose a Set of Fields for a Layout

When you create either a Table or Form-Over-Table layout, you are prompted to choose an option for the layout's initial set of fields. You can choose all fields for the layout or instead show only a subset of the available fields.

This option applies to the primary layout and to any dependent layouts when you create a set of dependent layouts. It does not apply to flexfields or other polymorphic business objects.

Here are the options in the New Layout Setup wizard:

Option Description
All fields (except audit fields)

All eligible fields except audit fields. Audit fields are fields, like "created by" and "last update date", that are frequently included by a given framework. The add-in maintains an internal list of audit fields for each known REST framework.

This is the default option.

All fields All eligible fields for the selected business object.
Only required fields

Only eligible fields required for create or update.

The default option is used instead in these cases:

  • A layout has no required fields
  • A layout has an attachment business object
  • A child layout has a business object that does not support either create or update
Compact view

"Compact view" is only available for ADF REST catalogs. If the business object for the primary layout has a compact view defined, this option is shown.

If compact view is chosen for the primary layout and one of the child layouts has a business object with no compact view, the default choice is used instead for that child layout.

Note:

Compact View is never the default option. New layouts created using 4.5 and later may be different than 4.4 and earlier.

Note:

This feature has no impact on layouts created with prior versions of the add-in.
