Understand dependencies

In some situations, assets must be published together to maintain the integrity of their relationships.

When you select individual assets on the Changes page, the appropriate dependencies are calculated and displayed on the Dependencies tab of the Review and Schedule page. When the publishing event occurs, any dependent assets are published along with the originally selected ones. In this way, you can publish selectively; for example, you can publish the changes you made to the About Us layout while avoiding publishing changes you or another co-worker made to a product asset. If, however, you make changes that affect the layout, for example a widget that is associated with the layout, the layout and any other dependencies appear on the Changes page and are published along with the widget. The selection and the dependencies are displayed on the Review and Schedule page on their respective tabs.

Depending on the type of items you created or updated, the Review and Schedule page might contain additional dependent items that will also be published. For example, if you update the description of a shipping method, the Review and Schedule page also includes the method’s associated shipping regions, even if you did not make any changes to them.
