Performing Calc on the Fly on Forms 2.0

While working on Forms 2.0, you can change data values to view the calculations quickly in forms containing member formulas.

This topic covers the steps to perform calc on the fly in Oracle Smart View for Office. For information on performing calc on the fly in the web application of your business process, see the following topics:

Note:

Before starting with calc on the fly, ensure that it is enabled for the form that you are going to work with. For more information, see the Enabling Calc on the Fly for Forms 2.0 section in Enabling Calc on the Fly.

To perform calc on the fly:

  1. Connect to your data provider and open the required form containing member formulas.
  2. Click the cells with formulas to view the formula in the tooltip, along with the members and mathematical operators involved in the formula.

For more information, see Viewing Calc on the Fly Formulas.

  3. Enter a value or modify an existing value in the data cells.

    Note:

Entering or modifying values manually in cells containing formula is not supported in Smart View. If you do so, the formula gets overwritten with your entered value and you may lose the formula. This is also why formula spreading does not work in Smart View. As the formula gets deleted on typing in a cell containing formula, it does not update the values of the cells contributing to the formula.
  4. Tab out of the modified cells to see the values in the cells with formula refresh immediately, without saving or submitting. The calculations also roll up to parent dimensions of members, if any, and their values are also updated.

The modified cells become dirty, that is they are indicated with a color change. You can click Refresh to return the dirty cells to their original values from the database.

  5. Continue to perform calc on the fly and see the calculated values refresh in the cells instantaneously.
  6. Once satisfied with the calculations, submit the data by clicking Submit Data in the provider ribbon.
Alternatively, you can close the form without submitting to discard your changes.
