Using the Private Connection Wizard

Use the private connection wizard to create a connection directly to, depending on the data source, an application, database, or library.

To create a private connection using the wizard:

  1. From the Smart View ribbon, click Panel.
  2. From the Smart View Panel, click the arrow next to Home button, and then select Private Connections.
  3. In the Action Panel, click Create new connection to display the Add Connection wizard.

Alternatively, click the arrow next to Go button and select Create new connection.

  4. Select a provider type.
    • Smart View HTTP Provider—for Cloud EPM and Essbase data sources.

    • Oracle BI EE—for Oracle Analytics Cloud data sources.

  5. In Add Connection - URL, enter the URL for the private connection, then click Next.

Follow the syntax guidelines in Private Connection URL Syntax.

If you are creating a connection to Oracle Analytics Cloud, proceed to step 8. Otherwise, proceed to the next step.

  6. In Add Connection - Application/Cube, navigate to an application, database, or library node, select it, and then click Next.
    • Cloud EPM:

      • Selecting an application folder gives you access to all folders in the application, but not to any database.

      • Selecting a database gives you access to only that database, and not the application folders. One database may be selected per private connection.

    • Narrative Reporting: Selecting the Library node gives you access to all artifacts in the Narrative Reporting library.

    • Essbase: Only one database may be selected per private connection.

  7. In Add Connection - Name/Description, enter a friendly name for the connection and an optional description.

    Note:

Do not use spaces in the name.
  8. Click Finish.
Oracle Analytics Cloud: After you click Finish, the Save as Private Connection dialog is displayed, where you can optionally provide a friendly name for the connection and a description.
  9. Optional: To select a private connection, click the drop-down arrow in the connection text box in the Smart View Panel.

Private connections are listed by provider type.
