Creating a Dimension

To create a dimension:

  1. From the Home page, select Application, and then Overview.

  2. On the Application page, select the Dimensions tab.

  3. Click the drop-down next to Cube, and select the cube to which you want to add the dimension.

  4. Click Create.

  5. On the Create Dimension page, enter the following information:

    • Dimension: Enter a name that is unique across all dimensions. See Naming Restrictions for Dimensions, Members, and Aliases.

    • Description: Optional: Enter a description.

    • Alias Table: Select an alias table.

    • Alias: Optional: Enter an alternate name for the dimension.

    • Two Pass Calculation: Not applicable in Enterprise Profitability and Cost Management.

    • Apply Security: Allow security to be set on the dimension members; must be selected before assigning access rights to dimension members. Otherwise, dimensions have no security and users can access members without restriction.

    • Data Storage: Select a data storage option.

Note: The Data Storage setting applies only to the dimension itself, not to all members in the dimension.

      • Store: Stores data values of members.

      • Dynamic Calc and Store: Not applicable in Enterprise Profitability and Cost Management.

      • Dynamic Calc: Calculates data values of members. The Dynamic Calc option only applies to attribute members.

      • Never Share: Prohibits implied sharing between parent and child members when only one child aggregates to the parent.

      • Label Only: Has no data associated with the member.
    • Display Option: Set the application default display option for the Member Selection dialog box. See Using the Member Selector.

    • Hierarchy Type: The Hierarchy Type cannot be set when you initially create a dimension. You can set it later after the dimension is created. See Editing Dimension Properties.

  6. Select which cubes will use the dimension by selected Enabled next to the desired cube.

  7. Click Done.
