Defining an Allocation Destination

After defining an allocation source, the next step is to define the members that describe where to allocate the data and how to allocate to the destination.

Selecting Members for the Destination

For each dimension in the Destination column, select the members that are to receive the allocated data. If you select a parent member, the allocation will go to its all its level 0 descendants.

To define an allocation destination:

  1. Click in the Destination column next to a dimension to enable the Edit button, and then click Edit.

In this example, we will define an allocation destination for the Entity dimension.

After you click Edit, the Edit Destination Component panel is displayed.

  2. Define how to allocate to the destination. Click the Options drop-down and select an option:

    • Select Members: Define the destination members for the dimension by doing one of the following:

      • Click Member Selector to open the Select Members dialog box, where you can select the members to add to the destination dimension. See Using the Member Selector.

In this example, seven members have been defined for the Entity dimension.

        Tip:

Selecting an upper-level member selects all the descendants of that member. For example, if you choose "All Accounts", then your selection is really all the Level 0 descendants of "All Accounts". The rule will execute an allocation for each level-0 member. Selecting an upper-level member eliminates the need to pick each specific member individually.

      • Enter member names, one per line, in the Dimension Members area.

        Tip:

If you have a list of members in an Excel spreadsheet, you can copy these members from Excel, and then paste them into the Members Entry dialog box. The members will be added to the dimensions in the destination to which they were assigned when the dimensions were created. See Adding Members to a Dimension.
    • Same As Source: Defines the members set for a destination dimension to be the same as the members set for the source dimension. See Setting the Destination to Same as Source.

    • Same as Source Different Dimension: Defines the members set for a destination dimension to be the same as the members set for the source dimension, but the destination members match the source members you selected for a different dimension.

    • Allocate to Parent: Creates a source to destination relationship for every member selection in the source, and targets its value to the member's parent. See Allocating to Parent/Siblings.

    • Allocate to Siblings: Creates a source to destination relationship for every member selection in the source, and targets its value to the member's siblings. See Allocating to Parent/Siblings.

  3. Optional: Click the Manage Filters tab to apply filters to limit the members included in the destination. See Managing Filters for Source and Destination Members.

  4. Click Submit to save the information you have added for the source.

Tip:

  • To view details about the rule configuration, click Open Configuration icon to open the Rule Configuration panel.

  • The numbers in parenthesis to the right of each member indicates the number if level 0 descendants. This helps you identify the size of range you are defining.

  • The default sort order for the dimensions is set to Designer. If you need to compare the data on this page to Smart View or another data output, change the sort order from Designer to Outline so that the sort order is the same as the sort order in Smart View or your other data output.
