Renaming Rules

If you decide to rename a rule, keep in mind the following points:

  • The default behavior is to keep existing data under the original rule name. Any new calculations will be writen to the new rule name.

Rules can exist in multiple models, and the data calculated by the rule can exist in many POVs. Because you may want to retain rule data previously calculated under an old rule name, Enterprise Profitability and Cost Management does not automatically delete or move data from an old rule name to new rule name.

  • If you want to move existing data to a new rule name:

    1. Rename the rule member.

Double-click the member name on the Edit Member Properites page, enter the new member name, and click Save. See Editing Member Properties.

    2. Refresh the database.

On the Application page, select Actions, and then Refresh Database. See Refreshing the Application Database.

    3. Rename the rule in all the models where it is used.

See Editing a Rule or Rule Set.

Tip:

Review the note under the "Clear Calculated Data" processing option in Calculating a Model for information on how data is calculated if a rule name has changed.
