Workflow Step Counter

The Workflow Step Counter appears on the workflow panel to help mobile workers track their progress through a multi-step workflow.

How the Step Counter Works

The counter displays the number of completed steps out of the total number of currently visible steps. For example, 2/7 means the mobile worker has completed 2 of 7 visible steps.

Note: The step counter shows only the steps that are currently visible to the mobile worker. Steps hidden by conditions or branching are not counted from the visible total. For more information, see the Workflow Step Counter topic in Administration Guide.

Benefits for Mobile Workers

The Workflow Step Counter enhances efficiency and accuracy for mobile workers in these scenarios:

Benefit Description
Progress Awareness As a mobile worker, you work through service tasks, for example, inspection, repair, testing, and documentation, the counter gives a quick visual cue of your progress. This helps you manage time and know what tasks remain.
Conditional Workflow Visibility When steps only appear under specific conditions, such as if a part is found faulty, the counter dynamically adapts to count only the relevant, visible steps that apply to the current job context. This avoids confusion from non-applicable steps.
User Guidance and Confidence As a mobile worker, when you see Step 3 of 5, it confirms you are on track and helps you anticipate upcoming actions. This is particularly helpful for complex jobs or new mobile workers. For instance, it reminds you that your next steps are to fill in safety checks, upload photos, and then finalize.
Error Reduction If a step is missed or skipped, the counter helps highlight that fewer steps have been completed than expected, prompting a review to ensure no mandatory step is overlooked.
Adaptive Workflows Efficiency Only visible steps are counted, mobile workers are not distracted or overwhelmed by steps that are irrelevant to their specific job. This streamlining helps improve focus and efficiency in the field.

Completing and Tracking Steps

As you work through an activity, you will complete the workflow as a step-by-step task. Each step guides you to collect information, perform actions, and submit required details.

The order of the steps is determined by how the workflow was configured, and certain conditions control when each step becomes available.
