How You Set Up Compensatory Time in Time and Labor

To report and calculate earned compensatory time and take compensatory absences, you must complete these time entry and processing configuration tasks. They're in the Setup and Maintenance work area, Workforce Deployment offering, Time and Labor functional area.

Time Entry

Here are the configuration tasks you need to complete for time entry.

Task Description
1 Generate Data Dictionary Time Attributes

Link time attributes stored in the data dictionary with any absence types enabled for time entry. These attributes identify the time data for transfer to Absence Management for processing.

The absence types make up the drop-down list for the Absence Management Type attribute. You use these drop-down list values when you create time card fields and web clock buttons. Time reporters use them when they report time worked and time off.

2 Time Entry Layout Components

Create a multiattribute time entry field that includes the time attributes Absence Management Type and Compensatory Time Absence Plan.

  • In one row, you select the absence management type that decrements the person's earned compensatory time--the compensatory absence.
  • In another row, you select the compensatory time absence plan that increments the person's earned compensatory time.

If the individuals with time layouts that include this field have multiple compensatory plans, we suggest you use the Assignment based List of Compensatory Time Absence Plan for User filtered data source.

Optionally, create a dependent field to set an expiration date for earned compensatory time.

3 Time Layout Sets

Add the multiattribute field that includes compensatory time to the time entry, review, view, and approval notification layouts, and the calendar entry layout. Optionally add the dependent expiration date field to the entry-level details page of each layout.

If you use responsive time cards, then add the multiattribute field to the responsive UI layout.

4 Worker Time Entry Profiles Create profiles that link individuals and their managers to the layout set that includes the compensatory time fields.

Time Processing

Here are the time processing tasks you need to complete.

Task Description
1 Time Rule Templates

Create rule templates to calculate earned compensatory time, as needed. Use time categories in rule templates to identify the absence time data to use in the calculations.

You need to create rule templates for these conditions:

  • You use your own formulas.
  • You use multiattribute time card fields with more than one stored time attribute.

You can use delivered rule templates if the time card field or web clock button stores a single time attribute.

2 Time Rules

Create time rules using the rule templates.

  • Advanced time category rules identify time events and entries using complex logic not available in the condition components of a time category.
  • Time calculation rules generate earned compensatory time, which automatically transfers to Absence Management.
3 Time Rule Sets Create collections of time calculation rules that generate earned compensatory time.
4 Worker Time Processing Profiles Create profiles that link individuals and their managers to the time calculation rule set that generates earned compensatory time.
