How do I create extract attributes?

Title and music.

Hello, my name is Ken. In this video I’ll explain how to create extract attributes.

Attributes are the individual fields inside the extract record. It is the lowest level of a HCM extract and represents a piece of information. For example: person first name, person last name, or person date of birth.

In this example I’ll use an existing extract definition to extract person details

I’ll add attributes in the existing Person Details record within this extract definition.

I’ll create four attributes for this record: Person Number, Person ID, First Name, and Last Name.

So let’s start in the Create Extract Attributes.

First, I’ll add the Person Number attribute.

Then pressing the Tab key automatically populates the Tag Name field.

Enter a Short Code which can be used in formulas.

For the attribute type, the most common is Database items group. When selected the only values available are those database items for the User entity entered in the extract definition.

Select the database items for this attribute.

The Data Type field is a list of values. Notice that the Data Type populated based on the database item selected.

Next, enter the Output Label which is the label that appears in the output files.

Then we’ll enter the Output Column, which is basically the Sequence column.

Since nothing else needs to be defined for this attribute, we’ll Save and Create Another.

Now let’s enter the Person ID attribute as the Name.

The Tag Name automatically populates.

I’ll enter the Short Code, Type, and Database Item Group.

I’ll enter the Output Label.

I’ll enter the Output Column.

The Person ID is the unique key for this record, so I’ll select Key Attribute.

And choose the Save and Create Another option to create our next attribute.

Next, I’ll enter the Person First Name attribute.

I’ll enter the Short Code, Type, and Database Item Group.

I’ll enter the Output Label.

I’ll enter the Output Column.

And then I’ll choose the Save and Create Another option.

Finally, I’ll add the Person Last Name attribute.

I’ll enter the Short Code, Type, and Database Item Group.

I’ll enter the Output Label and the Output Column.

And now I’ll click Save.

Then I’ll close the Confirmation message.

And you can see that we have created four attributes in our record.
