Step 2: Create Oracle Responsys service environments

For each base interaction account or additional interaction account bundle that you have purchased, repeat the steps below to create the service environments and to activate them.

Before you begin: Before you create service environments, if you have purchased add-on accounts, decide which add-on product features will be added to which accounts. See Before you begin: Plan your Oracle Responsys usage. The Create New Oracle Responsys Service Instance page does not allow you to save your selections before submitting them, so you must plan resource allocations before creating service environments.

From the Oracle Cloud Dashboard:

  1. From the Oracle Cloud Dashboard page, locate the Identity Domain drop-down list. Select the option that shows your Oracle Public Cloud Service account name with the text "(classic)" after it. For example, if the options shown are "examplecom" and "examplecom (classic)", select "examplecom (classic)"

  2. Click the Create Instance card.

Oracle Cloud Dashboard page. Click the Create Instance card to get started with creating a Responsys environment.

TIP: You can enlarge any image in the online help by clicking it. Click the image again to return it to the original size.

  3. On the Create Instance dialog, locate Responsys and then click Create.

Create Environment dialog. Click the Create button for the Responsys service to continue.

The Create New Oracle Responsys Instance page is displayed.

  4. Complete the following environment details:

    1. Name: Enter a unique name for your service environment.

      • The name identifies your service only within your identity domain on Oracle Cloud Portal. For example, Oracle does not use it to name your Oracle Responsys account. (The account name shown in the Responsys user interface is automatically generated based on the customer's billing name, not the name you enter here.)
      • The name must start with a letter, and it can have up to 25 lower case letters and numbers. You cannot use spaces, upper case letters, special characters, or non-English characters or numbers.
    2. Type of instance: The choices available depend on what you have purchased, as well as the pricing model that you are on (interactions pricing or legacy pricing). Follow this step carefully. If you do not make the appropriate selection, it will cause unnecessary delays in the configuration process.

About the new pricing models. Interaction pricing is the new pricing model for Oracle Responsys. Messages pricing is the legacy pricing model for Oracle Responsys. With the interaction pricing model, customers have access to Email, SMS, and Mobile App messages sent from Responsys, and each one counts as an interaction. The interaction pricing model also includes many add-on features that used to be purchased separately.

Unsure what to select? Consult the table below for which selection to make.

        New Responsys customer
      (always interaction pricing)
Existing Responsys customer with interaction pricing Existing Responsys customer with legacy (messages) pricing
      Creating the first instance:
      (your main Responsys account)
Base Interaction N/A (existing customers already have at least one instance) N/A (existing customers already have at least one instance)
      Creating an additional instance:
      (an additional Responsys account)
      Additional Interaction Additional Interaction Additional

Known issue: Cloud Portal might show all four choices (Base, Base Interaction, Additional, Additional Interaction). This is an error that sometimes occurs when an account has been migrated from legacy to interaction pricing.

Workaround: If you encounter this error, your account has been migrated from legacy to interaction pricing. Select only choices that correspond to the interaction pricing model.

    3. Default customer hosted reply-to address: Enter a valid email address to which you want Responsys to forward recipient's replies that the system does not identify as "out of the office" replies or as unsubscribe requests. After Oracle configures your account, you may change the address if needed or add additional addresses through the Responsys Account Management page.

      • You must host this email address.
      • A valid email address cannot belong to the following domains: rsys2.net, rsys2.com, rsys5.net, rsys5.com, rsys8.net, rsys8.com, rsys9.net, rsys9.com, responsys.com, oracle.com

Oracle Responsys attempts to identify any out-of-office and unsubscribe requests received by an Oracle Responsys-hosted "Reply To" address. Responsys forwards the remaining replies that we receive on your behalf to the reply email address that you specify as the default customer-hosted reply-to address.

    4. Time Zone: Select the time zone for your Oracle Responsys account. Ensure that this value is correct, because the account time zone can only be changed by contacting Oracle Support and only during the first 30 days after activation.

    5. Select industry vertical for account (Optional): You can choose to have a pre-defined, industry-specific data model loaded when your account is configured. Each data model includes a predefined list, PETs, and supplemental tables. Industry vertical choices are Banking, Hospitality (hotel), Retail, Telecom, or Travel (airline). If you do not want the preloaded data assets, choose Other. If you do not make a selection, Other is the default. To learn more about industry vertical data models, see the Preloaded data assets topic in the Oracle Responsys Help Center.

    6. Choose your add-on resource allocation amounts: To select a resource to be configured for this service environment, type a number (in the range of those shown as available) in the field. Repeat this step for each resource you want to activate.

NOTE: The amount available is shown below the field where you enter the amount allocated.

Example: Your buyer purchased 1 base interaction account, 2 additional interaction accounts, and 25 units of add-on product "Oracle Responsys Marketing Platform Cloud Service - Additional Full User - Hosted Named User", and you decided to add 5 of the 25 units to the base interaction account. When you create the service environment for the base interaction account, type 5 in the Oracle Responsys Marketing Platform Cloud Service - Additional Full User - Hosted Named User field.

      Important notes for specific resources:

Add the following features now if they are shown on this page and you intend to use them for the Responsys environment that you are creating:

      • Automatic Failover for Transactional Messages Cloud Service (AFTM) . This feature requires that Oracle assign your Responsys account to an AFTM-compatible pod when Oracle Provisioning creates your account.
      • Encryption at Rest. Adding this feature later may result in significant delays in being it being activated for your account.

If you purchased Send Time Optimization (STO), you should see Oracle Responsys Send Time Optimization Cloud Service - 1,000 Records as one of the choices. To enable the feature, type 1 in the field. (Please disregard the tooltip message for this field. After STO is enabled by Oracle for your account, you will have access to the full capacity purchased. But first, STO requires that you turn on the feature using the Intelligence Features Management page in Responsys.)

If you purchased the Advanced Intelligence Package add-on, note that adding it to your environment here is the first step. You'll need to perform additional configuration by using the Intelligence Features Management page in Responsys.)

  5. Optionally, change the Administrator Details. By default, this section shows your administrator account details. If you will be the administrator for this service environment and the Responsys account administrator, continue to step 4.

    • The administrator details show the contact information for the person who will be both the service environment administrator in the Oracle Cloud portal and the first account administrator created in Responsys.
    • Oracle Cloud sends the administrator details to Oracle Responsys, and the administrator shown here is set up as the Oracle Responsys account administrator. This person receives the “Welcome to Oracle Responsys” email. (You can add more Responsys account administrators after you log in to Responsys. See the online help in Responsys for instructions.)
    • When a buyer purchases add-on product features for the service environment, Oracle Cloud notifies the administrator, who starts the update process (as described in “Updating Subscriptions”).
  6. Review your changes carefully, and then scroll to the bottom of the page and click Create. The Confirmation dialog is displayed.

IMPORTANT: If you purchased the AFTM feature or the Encryption at Rest feature or both, and you intend to use it on the Responsys environment that you are creating, cancel and verify that you have allocated it according to the "Choose your add-on resource allocation amounts" step in this topic. If you have already verified this allocation, click Create.

  7. On the Confirmation dialog, click Create to submit your request to Oracle. You can also click Cancel to go back without submitting your request and verify that the details are correct.

After you create the service environment, the Service Details - Overview page is displayed and a message banner across the top of the screen identifies the service environment to be activated by Oracle.

Important: Your Responsys account (service environment) will not be available right away. It takes Oracle several days (typically 7-10 business days) to complete all of the steps to set up a new Responsys account. Oracle notifies you by email when the new account is ready to use, as described in Step 3: Follow the instructions in the "Welcome to Oracle Responsys" email.

  8. Log out of Oracle Cloud: Click the user menu, and then choose Sign Out.
