Using a DLT template in the SMS Message Designer

Important: This feature is only available if your organization has purchased SMS services. Please contact your account manager for additional information and pricing.

With the Oracle Eloqua DLT feature, you can use your DLT-registered templates in the SMS Message Designer.

Prerequisites

To use a DLT-registered template in the SMS Designer:

  1. Navigate to AssetsAn image of the Assets icon, which is represented by a black pencil., then click SMS.
  2. Click Create SMS.

Note: All Eloqua SMS messages are currently marketer initiated. They can be sent from Oracle Eloqua to a contact, and replies from contacts for those messages can be received by Oracle Eloqua. A subscriber-initiated message is one where a phone number initiates a message for the application.

  3. Give your SMS message a name, and select a Purpose.
    • Promotional: Promotional messages are typically used for promotion of things such as events, sales, and so on.
    • Transactional: Transactional messages are typically used for purchase confirmations and similar communications.
  4. Select your India code. Codes are special numbers provided by carriers that are used to address SMS messages sent from mobile phones. In the drop-down list, you can see which country each code is for.
  5. Click Continue.
  6. Click the Outbound element. DLT template chooser opens.
  7. Select an Approved DLT Template from the drop-down list. The message editor opens.
  8. Compose your message:
    • In the text area, DLT template content is populated based on template selection. Compose your SMS message in alignment with the approved template. A character count for your message is available at the bottom of the text area. This count detail is available only if there is no personalization used on the message. Click Special character icon to add any special characters.
    • The Usage per Recipient count indicates the number of split parts the message will be accounted as.
    • Note: If a message exceeds character count as per the respective character set limits, it will be accounted as more than one split parts. While a mobile phone will receive a single, combined message, your SMS consumption will be based on the number of splits.

    • Add a keyword (optional):
      1. Open the Keyword tab.

Each keyword's action, such as OPTIN, OPTOUT, HELP, or CUSTOM and it's code is indicated against it.

      2. Search or browse for your desired keyword.
      3. Click + to add the field merge, or drag and drop using Number 2.
      4. Create a response message for those keywords you want Oracle Eloqua to listen to. The response message for a keyword is sent out when the corresponding keyword is received. Oracle Eloqua will not process keywords for which there is no response message.

You can click the response message as seen in the canvas below to open the DLT template chooser and create a response for a desired keyword.

    • Add field merges (optional):
      1. Open the Field Merge tab.
      2. Search or browse for your desired field merge.
      3. Click + to add the field merge, or drag and drop using Number 2.
    • Add hyperlinks (optional):
      1. Open the Hyperlink tab.
      2. Select the link type:
        • Landing Page: when a recipient clicks this hyperlink, they are redirected to an Eloqua landing page.
          1. Search or browse for your desired landing page.
          2. Click + to add the hyperlink, or drag and drop using Number 2. The link is automatically shortened once it's added to the message designer.
        • Webpage URL: when a recipient clicks this hyperlink, they are redirected to the URL you provide.
          1. Specify whether you want tracking for untracked external pages.
          2. Click Insert. The link is automatically shortened once it's added to the message designer.
  9. (Optional) Click ActionsSettings to change your message's name or code.
  10. Click Save.

Note: While the message editor does not enforce strict adherence of message content to the selected template, you should ensure the content in the editor matches that in the template. Messages that deviate from the indicated template can potentially get dropped by SMS processing partners.
