Classic Campaign Templates

Important: Effective June 2024, Responsys will not support Classic Campaign functionality. After the effective date, Campaign Designer will be the only Responsys tool for creating and sending targeted and personalized campaigns. Learn more about the Campaign Designer.

You can create a new campaign from scratch every time, but your campaigns probably have a lot of elements in common. If so, you can create a few campaigns that cover most of your needs, then designate those as template campaigns. That makes them readily available for reuse, speeding the creation of subsequent campaigns.

You can use fully or partially defined campaigns as templates to help ensure that new campaigns conform to a standardized style and reuse common elements. For example, if you launch the same campaign to a different distribution list every week, your template campaign might contain everything but the distribution list—next week, just create a campaign based on the template, specify the distribution list, and launch. If you launch a different campaign to the same distribution list every month, your template campaign might contain everything but the campaign message—next month, just create a campaign based on the template, specify the campaign message document, and launch.

Tip: The Email Message Designer allows you to save an email campaign as a template. These templates are available to users when they create a new email campaign. Learn more about creating templates using the Email Message Designer.

Identifying campaign templates

Account Administrators can make an existing campaign into a template. After identifying templates, users can access the templates from the Create from Classic Template wizard.

To identify templates:

  1. Log in as account manager (or have your account manager perform these steps).
  2. Click The Account icon Account on the side navigation bar.
  3. Click Define Classic Templates for Campaigns in the Campaign Management section.
  4. Select the campaigns you want to designate as templates.

Note: Users can no longer designate an EMD campaign as a template in Create from Classic Template. If your account already has EMD campaigns as part of the Template Campaigns, however, then those templates will remain in the list and you can still create campaigns from them.

  5. Click Save.

Using the Create from Classic Template wizard

You can use the Create from Classic Template wizard to create a new campaign using a template identified by your Account Administrator. Learn more about identifying campaign templates.

The new campaign inherits some or all of its characteristics from the template: message, distribution list, profile tables, and so on—everything that's defined for the template at the time you use it as the basis of the new campaign.

Once the new campaign has been created, it's completely independent of the template—changes to the template don't affect it, and changes to the campaign don't affect the template.

To create a campaign from a template that has been set up for your account:

  1. On the side navigation bar, click Actions and select Create from Classic Template. (Not seeing this choice? Refer to the Side navigation bar changes topic.)
  2. Select the template you want to use and complete the wizard.

After you complete the wizard, the campaign workbook opens for the new campaign and you can define and modify all elements of your new campaign.
